The Navy is continuing the search for the missing pilot of a crashed jet.
The Navy will work with civilian rescue teams to locate the pilot of a loaned U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18C, which crashed Saturday, March 1 near a naval base in Nevada, reports CNN . The jet was on loan to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center to be used as a training aircraft as part of the pilot training program. The Navy originally thought the lost plane was a Navy aircraft.
The Navy assures that the craft was not carrying weaponry during the flight. No other injuries have been reported, though the jet appears to be a "total loss." The cause of the crash is still unknown, but will be investigated.
The search and rescue team was not immediately deployed to the crash site due to its remote location, reports LA Times . An overnight snowstorm also hindered relief efforts.
At this time, the name of the pilot has not been released and will not be released until his or her family is notified.
