Actress Sienna Miller is reportedly in talks to join American Sniper, which will star Bradley Cooper and will be directed by Clint Eastwood.
This is a personal project for Cooper, who said a year ago that he wanted to make the film as soon as possible. In it, he’ll play the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who was killed in Texas by a veteran he was trying to help. Kyle’s book about his experiences was a bestseller and he had the most sniper kills in U.S. military history.
According to TheWrap, Miller came out on top of a competitive casting process. She’ll play Kyle’s wife, who raises their children while he is overseas.
The site reports that Eastwood had several actresses in mind, including Jamie Alexander, but he picked Miller. She most recently made Foxcatcher with Moneyball director Bennett Miller. That film is expected to be an Oscar contender this year.
American Sniper has had a difficult process getting off the ground. Before Eastwood was brought on in August, Steven Spielberg had it set as a potential follow-up to Lincoln. However, Spielberg dropped out, reportedly because his vision was too expensive for the proposed budget.
American Sniper was adapted by Jason Hall. Cooper is producing under his 22nd and Indiana banner. Andrew Lazar and Peter Morgan are the co-producers and production kicks off next month. The project is set up at Warner Bros.
