Ticket site StubHub closed a deal this week with the producers of the Broadway musical The Book of Mormon to sell premium tickets at a set price.
According to the New York Times, StubHub’s limited deal with the original ticketing service Telecharge is a great way for the show’s producers to expand their customer base. The move has helped the eBay owned company as well by bringing a sense of legitimacy to their site, known primarily as a place to scalp tickets by ticket brokers.
Spokesman Glenn Lehrman admitted, “We’ve always had a pretty poor Broadway experience. We haven’t had much inventory, and what we had was priced too high. So what we’re looking to do is develop a relationship with the Broadway market and improve the buyer experience.”
Seatle Pi reports that StubHub is giving away tote bags and show books with every ticket purchased. Premium seats for The Book of Mormon go at a current rate of $477 per ticket. The show has grossed over $245 billion in its three years on Broadway.
The Book of Mormon has won a Grammy award, as well as nine Tony awards in 2011.
