A sixth grader from Virginia Beach is now suspended and facing possible expulsion after acting upon a terrible situation in which most of us would consider a "praise worthy" act.
Adrionna Harris, a student at Bayside Middle School, knew that when she saw her classmate cutting his arm with a razor, she had to stop it. Without a second though, she immediately took the razor away from him and threw it out.
According to Yahoo! News, the sixth grader received a suspension of 10 days because she admitted what happened. Apparently, the honesty that Adrionna had is what caused the punishment.
Adrionna's mother is not happy with the middle school and their actions against Adrionna in this situation.
“I felt she did the right thing…There was not a teacher in sight while this boy was cutting himself. She felt like it was almost a 911 situation, that she had to help immediately, like there wasn’t time to find a teacher…The school system over-reached absolutely," said her mother, Rachel Harris.
"I was just trying to help," noted Adrionna.
WAVY writers that after meeting with the Principal of the middle school, it has been agreed upon to allow Adrionna to return to school on Friday rather than keeping the original 10 day suspension.
Adrionna still feels as if she did the right thing and knows that if it were to happen again, she would react in the same manner.
“Even if I got in trouble, it didn’t matter because I was helping him … I would do it again even if I got suspended,” she said.
The family is still fighting to make sure none of this incident appears on Adrionna's records.
