A third person has died from injuries sustained during the Thursday morning car crash at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. Two people died at the scene and over 20 others were injured.
Sandy Le was among the people struck by the car outside the Mohawk club, the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office said, reports KVUE. The 26-year-old had been on life support since the crash.
Le was an Austin resident, but her family is from Pass Christian, Miss. “She lived in this whimsy that almost made you jealous, she was a very carefree and nonchalant person with a definitely giving spirit, and she was very selfless,” her brother-in-law, Stuart Gates, told The Clarion Ledger. “She was full of life, she was quirky, and she was always someone you were looking forward to seeing.”
Police say that Rashad Owens, an aspiring rapper, was intoxicated when he tried to escape an officer. He drove through a barricade that had stopped traffic in downtown Austin. Jamie West, 27; and Steven Craenmehr, 35, were killed and 22 others were injured. Seven are still in the hospital.
Owens has been charged with capital murder and is still in jail on $3 million bond.
