In an attempt to resume peace talks with the Pakistani government, the Taliban has announced a month long cease-fire as long as the government stops airstrikes against them.
The Taliban is also demanding that the Sharia law be put into place, which is about moral codes, and religious law, as well as the Pakistani government should have the United States stop sending drones to strike and to release all women, children, and elderly that may have been taken by the military.
Shahidullah Shahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, which is also called the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, said that, “The senior leadership directs all constituents and groups to respect and fully abide by the cease-fire declaration and restrain themselves from all kinds of jihadist activities,” according to NY Times.
According to BBC News, Pakistani’s are very skeptical of the month long cease-fire since the last one ended when a group of Taliban members announced that they has killed 23 soldiers that were in their custody.
Although no comment from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif about the peace talks have been made, the Taliban was assured that it was desired.
