An 18-year-old man has been arrested Friday for biting off part of his infant son’s nose.

Teenage father Joshua Cooper was reportedly aggravated when his 1-month-old son wouldn’t stop crying and attacked him. The child was taken into emergency care at Oakland Children’s Hospital and was found to have a fracture to the skull, a brain hemorrhage and part of his nose ripped off, according to the Associated Press.

Police were notified when the mother, who is 17, of the child called to report the child’s excessive bleeding. Police reported that she was “hysterical” when she made the phone call. The mother, along with Cooper and various other family members, were present when the incident took place.

While police have made the determination that Cooper caused the nose injury, they are still trying to determine how the infant received his other injuries.

CBS San Francisco reports that Cooper is currently being held at Solano County Jail in Fairfield for charges of child cruelty and aggravated mayhem.

The infant is in stable condition.
