A 14-year-old boy has thought up a plan that could save the United States $400 million a year. Suvir Mirchandani who is a middle school student in Pittsburgh, proposes that by simply changing the font on official documents the U.S. would save tremendous amounts of money.
His discovery came after thinking of ways to save money for his science fair project. After doing some research he realized just how big of a difference the font actually makes.
Ink is way more expensive than one might think. According to the New York Daily News Mirchandani reported, “Ink is two times more expensive than French perfume by volume.” He also pointed out that one ounce of Hewlett-Packard ink is $75 but yet an ounce of Chanel No. 5 perfume is $38.
According to NDTV for his experiment Mirchandani used school handouts to observe common characters and letters. He then studied how much ink the characters used in various fonts using ink coverage software.
