Authorities said that a police officer was shot and killed early Saturday morning outside Orlando, Fla. and a teen couple he stopped to question were found dead of apparent suicides about a block away.

According to the New York Daily News, police have identified the teen lovers as Brandon Goode, 18, and British-born girlfriend, Alexandria Hollinghurst, 17.

The Daily Mail noted that during a press conference, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said that Windermere Police Officer Robert German called for backup around 3.30 a.m. after encountering the suspects he deemed suspicious.

Fellow officers arrived at the scene to find German shot to death and then heard two more gunshots fired nearby, which claimed the lives of the teen couple.

Windermere Police Chief David Ogden addressed the tragedy calling it “senseless.”

"Officer German was a good cop," he said. "He was one of the finest police officers we've had."

The town of Windermere is a wealthy suburb situated 14 miles outside of Orlando.
