A new study suggests that drinking tequila may be good for people wanting to lose weight and who suffer from diabetes.
The study suggests that the sugar made from the plant that also makes the liquor can be beneficial by lowering blood glucose levels of people with type two diabetes.
According to CBS Pilly, the natural sugar found in the liquor, called agavins, do not cause high blood pressure and are non-digestible making it ideal for those struggling.
Within the research, scientist fed mice their normal diet but added agavins to their drinking water. After this, it was revealed that the mice that drank the sugared water had lower blood glucose levels and didn’t eat as much as their counterparts.
These mice also were noted of producing GLP-1, a hormone that keeps the stomach full for a longer period of time. It also produces insulin.
The researchers of the study said, “This puts agavins in a tremendous position for their consumption by obese and diabetic people.”
