Authorities in Arizona said on Monday that a Texas man has died after falling off the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
According to the Associated Press, the man, who was visiting the park with his family, has been identified as John N. Anderson.
CBSDFW reported that officials at the Grand Canyon Media Office said that the Regional Communications Center was contacted around 8 a.m. on Saturday about a man who had fallen. The report said that the incident happened at canyon rim, near the El Tovar Lodge.
Rangers at the U.S. National Park Service said that the 53-year-old fell about 350 feet. They were able to find his body and performed CPR, but were unable to resuscitate him in their attempts.
Anderson had been a State Farm Insurance agent since 1985 and owned an agency in Bedford, Texas. In a statement the company said:
"John had a passion for life, his family and for serving the people of his community and beyond. He will be greatly missed."
