The power of the bond between friends is the focal point of many of this week’s releases. Through good times and bad, friends and loved ones stick up and comfort each other. When someone close to them is murdered or convicted of a murder, they’ll do anything they can to seek retribution.
A street car racer, wrongly imprisoned for the death of his friend, seeks revenge in Need for Speed. Upon his release from prison, he sets out to take down his former business partner at a major underground car race. In order to get there, he must elude cops and those out to get his prized racecar. The PG-13 action/adventure is based on the popular video game. The two hour and four minute film stars Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots and Dominic Cooper. It’s playing in 2D and 3D theaters.

After their kids get in trouble at school, a few moms start a support group in Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club. Despite their different socio-economic backgrounds, they form a tight bond and encourage each other as they struggle with being a single parent and getting back in the dating pool. The PG-13 comedic drama stars Tyler Perry, Nia Long, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Amy Smart, Zulay Henao, Cocoa Brown, Ryan Eggold, William Levy, Terry Crews and Eddie Cibrian. It plays for one hour and fifty-one minutes.

A 40-year-old man participates in a kids spelling bee in Bad Words. Based on the rule that a contestant must not have passed the 8th grade, Guy Trilby can compete in the bee but is facing backlash from officials, the kids’ parents and the kids themselves. As reporter tries to find out his motive, he befriends a young contestant and teaches him about his grown up world. Jason Bateman directs and stars in the one hour and twenty-nine minute comedy. The film is playing in limited theaters but expands on March 28. It’s rated R for sex, language and nudity.

The popular TV series, Veronica Mars has hit theaters. In the PG-13 film, Veronica decides to take on a new career path as a lawyer, but falls back into her old ways when her ex-boyfriend is accused of murder and seeks her help. When she sees that his case isn’t being managed appropriately, she takes matters into her own hands. Kristen Bell stars in the one hour and forty-eight minute crime film. It’s playing in limited theaters.

A group of con men join forces for a lucrative heist in The Art of the Steal. A motorcycle daredevil spearheads the plan to steal the Gutenberg Bible and get a hefty payday, but the team’s selfish agendas get in their way. Jay Baruchel, Matt Dillon, Kurt Russell, Terence Stamp star in the one hour and thirty minute crime comedy. The limited released film runs is rated R for sex and language.

The humdrum life of a pharmacist is turned upside down after a routine delivery in Better Living Through Chemistry. At one of his stops, he meets a drug addicted trophy wife who turns him on to many vices. The one hour and thirty-one minute dark comedy stars Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde. The limited released film is unrated.

Paris was the place they went on their honeymoon and now, many years later, the City of Love makes them feel young again and brings back the spark in their marriage. A nurse discovers that a seemingly innocent comatose young man has an evil past in Patrick: Evil Awakens. After she witnesses a doctor’s cruel tactics, the nurse realizes that the patient has the ability to control her mind and body. The unrated horror film is running in limited theaters for one hour and thirty-three minutes.

A man is haunted by his ex-wife’s blog about his personal life in The Right Kind of Wrong. When her blog goes viral, it seems like everyone knows about his flaws. As he watches his ex on TV promoting the blog, he falls for the woman he sees out his window that is about to get married. The one hour and thirty-seven minute romance stars Ryan Kwanten, Sara Canning, Will Sasso and Catherine O'Hara. The limited released film is rated R for sex, nudity and language.

An internet love affair gets intense in U Want Me 2 Kill Him?. A young man goes to great lengths to protect his love interest and her family. The oil industry is the focus of the documentary Big Men. The one hour and thirty-three minute film shows the impact of a Texas oil company on the country of Ghana. The unrated documentary is available in limited theaters.

The documentary Teenage showcases the youth of the late 19th and early 20th centuries through archival footage. It shows the impact that teens had on the culture of their times. The unrated, one hour and twenty minute film is playing in limited theaters.
