The Myco-bacterium, tuberculosis, has been announced as now a worldwide health security risk. Due to bad identification of the disease, about three million people have not gotten treatment for TB.
In 2012, tuberculosis, a disease that usually causes death when untreated, resulted in half a million people falling ill and only 25 percent of those individuals receiving proper diagnosis and treatment reported Liberty Voice. TB was declared a public health emergency by the global agency in 2013 with the estimate that the disease could infect two million by 2015. As a result projects had been started worldwide to end the spread of the preventable disease.
In New York City the number of tuberculosis cases is on the rise as reported by the New York Daily News. With the highest rates of the disease residing in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and Flushing, Queens, the infection increased 1% between 2012 and 2013, after a *3% decline in cases since 1992. In 2012, the disease had affected 651 people however by 2013, the number increased to 656.
