I’ve watched Twisted since the pilot. I’ve questioned the biggest secrets. I’ve followed Danny, Jo, Lacey and all of their drama since the very beginning. However, after the past few weeks, Twisted has jumped the shark. They’ve shown all their cards and have given us all of the answers.
If you haven’t seen Twisted, it is an ABC Family show that follows Danny Desai. When Danny was a child, he was arrested for murdering his aunt with a jump rope. He was released five years later. His first week back, one of his classmates, Regina Crane, was murdered.
Regina Crane had the necklace that Danny’s murdered aunt wore when she was murdered. After Regina was murdered, her necklace went missing. It was revealed that Danny had it and it was in his locker.
My dream series finale of Twisted was extremely twisted. I imagined that Danny would be arrested for Regina’s murder. He would go to trial and the verdict would be not guilty. Then, in a recall to the pilot, the camera would pan to Danny’s eyes and it would be a flashback. Although Danny was not charged, the flashback would reveal that he actually did kill Regina. What’s more twisted than a murderous protagonist?
But, if that didn’t happen, it would have been completely acceptable. There are plenty of twisted endings to explore. However, in order for a show to have depth and twists, you can’t end things abruptly. But that’s not what Twisted did.
A woman named Marilyn, who pretended to be a private investigator, is the one that killed Danny. Oh yeah and Regina’s mother, who had been on a vendetta to ruin Danny’s life, helped by putting the necklace in Danny’s locker. And they both did it because Danny’s father, Vikram, told them to because they were both in love with Vikram. Oh yeah, and he was alive.
Wow! Super shocking, right? It would have been a great twist! However, they solved the season’s giant mystery in the middle of the season and finished it up in a quick five minutes. Regina hasn’t been mentioned since.
But, now Twisted has something else to focus on. Danny’s father is who they’re all focused on now. Danny went to meet with his father about the fact that he covered for him killing his aunt and accidently pushed him off a cliff to try to protect Jo.
Then, they found Danny’s dad’s body and it appeared as if he had been in a car accident. Who did it? Could it be Jack, Karen’s boyfriend? Could it be anyone else that is out to get them? Who knows.
Since killing his father, every single episode has had a similar plot. Danny is tortured about killing his father and is shutting everyone out. Poor Lacey, completely in the dark, is stuck trying to understand angry Danny. But, after finding out that Danny and Jo hid it from her, dumped Danny.
So, here we are with angry Danny and the same story every single episode. I’ve already guessed that Twisted was going to get cancelled because of their big Regina reveal and the current decrease in ratings. However, if Twisted is picked up, they need to make a big change.
Twisted needs a bigger mystery and less-whiny characters. I understand that Danny is heartbroken, tortured, feels guilty and hurt. However, he needs more emotions than those. He can’t pout the entire time. That is boring.
I used to think Lacey was annoying. Now, I was rooting for her to dump mean Danny. And she has. And by the way, I am not and will never be team Jo/Danny relationship. Can’t boys and girls just be friends?
Plus, Charlie, Danny's roommate from juvenile detention, told Jo that Danny wanted to kill his father. So, now Jo doesn't want anything to do with him either. Do you know what that means? More grumpy, tortured Danny. Great.
I want Twisted to get better. I want Twisted to go back to basics. It used to be great and then it wasn’t. It's like they've given up on themselves and their fans. It is very unfortunate. As a fan, I feel cheated.
So, if Twisted does get a second season, something big needs to happen. Danny accidentally killing a character that we only just met isn't good enough. They needs something grand. Maybe the person who moved the body could be like Pretty Little Liars' A. Who knows. But they need to do something because Danny is becoming more and more unlikeable each episode.
What do you guys think? Do you think that they’ve lost their touch or is it better than ever?
