Ubisoft's delayed Watch Dogs finally has an official release date of May 27, 2014 it was revealed on Thursday.
The release date was finally confirmed through a trailer that the game developer released, reports Forbes. The game was originally set to be out during the launch window for the Sony Playstation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One, but was pushed back and any definitive release date kept quiet. The game due to come out on all the major systems though Nintendo's Wii U will get it at a later date.
The game was delayed only a month before its original release date and senior producer Dominic Guay opened up about the reason, notes Polygon. Everyone got together and realized that in order to release Watch Dogs as promised, it would have to be delayed. "We got everyone together and we looked at the game."
Guay continued, "Everybody was talking, looking at the game. Everybody was playing the game and seeing the same things, and so those discussions were all coming down to the same conclusion."
Though many working on the team simply say that the game needed more "polish," it also featured an experience that they worried would become repetitive to the player. Part of the problem was with the AI-controlled characters during hacking sequences. "It started to feel repetitive," Guay said. "The fantasy doesn't make the AI feel alive. We knew some things needed to be upgraded, improved and polished."
