The Biblical epic Noah is about to arrive in theaters worldwide but the film has already been banned in several Middle Eastern countries. Noah is a real life telling of the noah's ark story that is in the Bible.
The Darren Aronofsky project Noah has been banned in the Middle East for contradicting Islamic law because the film portrays a prophet.
Late last week, censorship boards in Qatar, Bahrian and the United Arab Emirates told Paramount that they will not be showing the film in those countries, The Hollywood Reporter added.
In Egypt the leading Sunni Muslim institute Al-Azhar released a statement in which he condemned the film and said it should not be shown at all in the country of Egypt.
The studio has announced that they knew the film would be a challenge to be released in these countries and were prepared for this type of a response.
Noah is scheduled to open in Egypt on March 26 but that might change due to recent events. The film will open in the United States two days after.
Noah stars Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Douglas Booth, Logan Lerman and Ray Winstone.
