Nick Caffrey’s story may be coming to a close sooner than some White Collar fans may have expected. It was reported that the show may be getting ending following a six-episode final season.

White Collar is one of USA Network’s most popular shows and its fifth season wrapped in January. According to Deadline, USA and series producer Fox TV are in talks to end the show with a sixth season that is only six episodes. Another season would be essential, as season five ended with a cliffhanger.

According to E! News, USA has not confirmed the report.

USA does like to end its shows with a satisfying conclusion for fans. Monk, Burn Notice and In Plain Sight all got to end on their writers’ terms and Psych will be doing the same.

Deadline notes that the decision to end White Collar is more about costs than anything else, as it is one of the network’s most critically acclaimed shows and still draws solid ratings. But it is expensive to film in New York and keep a well-known cast fronted by Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay paid. NBCUniversal, which owns USA, will also not own White Collar, as it is a Fox production, even though USA would pay the production bills.

USA does have several new shows around the corner, including the comedy Playing House and the recently-launched reality show Christy Knows Best.
