The country’s largest retailer is changing the gaming industry. Wal-Mart is expected to announce Tuesday a new store policy that allows customers to exchange old video games for store credit.
Starting on March 26, Wal-Mart will offer their new program and will primarily focus on receiving video games for the PlayStation, Xbox, and Wii systems reported Market Watch. Offering to pay customers more money for the old games than other competitors, Wal-Mart will then sell the games for an average of $35.
More than 3,100 Wal-Mart locations nationwide will begin the new program according to The New York Times.
This is not Wal-Mart’s first attempt with business for old items. Currently the retailer also allows customers to bring in used tablets and smartphone in return for credit to apply for new devices.
While customers anticipate Wal-Mart’s newest program, many wonder how GameStop will do as a result. GameStop has succeeded throughout the used video game industry in the past 15 years reported Dallas News. GameStop’s used-games equaled $2.4 billion in global sales for its fiscal year that ended on Feb. 2, 2013.
