Warner Bros. has picked up the option for Jeffrey Spivak's Buzz: The Life and Art of Busby Berkeley, with the possibility of Ryan Gosling to star in the film.
He is attached to produce though, alongside Marc Plant, according to The Hollywood Reporter, who first revealed the news. The film was picked up with the likelihood that the Drive actor would star and possibly even direct.
Berkeley was a film director and choreographer who was best known for creating outlandish and often kaleidoscopic dance routines for early Hollywood musicals. He worked on Gold Diggers of 1933 and 42 Street for Warner Bros.
He was even nominated three times for an Academy Award in the discontinued category of best dance direction.
"In an era of breadlines, depression and wars," the musical director once said. "I tried to help people get away from all the misery. ... I wanted to make people happy, if only for an hour."
Variety reports that Gosling just finished working on the film How to Catch A Monster for Warner Bros., which is set to be his first directorial effort.
