After years of making fun of Adam Sandler’s top grossing comedies, the group behind the Razzies Awards picked a new A-lister to ‘honor’: Will Smith. The Men in Black star and his son Jaden were ‘honored’ with awards for M. Night Shyamalan's latest flop, After Earth. However, the movie could not beat Movie 43 for the top award, Worst Picture.
Sandler was still well represented, since his Grown Ups 2 earned the most nominations with eight. However, the film didn’t win a single award.
Instead, the top Razzie went to Movie 43, an ill-advised sketch comedy film that somehow featured the likes of Halle Berry, Kate Winslet, Hugh Jackman and many others who’d like to have it erased from their IMDb page. The movie also won Worst Director (going to all 13 credited directors) and Worst Screenplay (credited to 19 writers).
After Earth won Worst Lead Actor (Jaden Smith); Worst Supporting Actor (Will Smith); and Worst Screen Combo.
Tyler Perry’s films took home a pair of awards. He won Worst Actress for an eighth time for A Madea Christmas. Kim Kardashian took home Worst Supporting actress for Tyler Perry’s Temptation. Disney’s The Lone Ranger was named Worst Remake/Rip-Off or Sequel.
The awards are picked by the members of the Raspberry Award Foundation, although RottonTomatoes.com readers got to pick the Worst Screen Combo winners.
