A Mississippi news anchor took to Facebook to suggest that maybe the LGBT community needs to take some time off and enjoy a "gaycation." He has since apologized.

WLOX-TV anchor Dave Elliott got himself tangled up in some controversy after he posted on his personal Facebook about how the LGBT community might be in the media too much, reports TheWrap.

First Elliott noted that he is supportive of the community, which is always the precursor to some controversial comment, then he added, "But it seems like they've been in the news too much lately. Maybe they should take a short break. Go on gaycation just for the weekend."

The ABC, CBS affiliate station has not said whether or not there will be a punishment for the post, but took to the WLOX Facebook page to say that Elliott made the comments on his personal Facebook page and any further comment he has will be posted there, according to Gulflive.

The news anchor did apology saying, "I recently made an insensitive and unprofessional Facebook post regarding the LGBT community. I did not choose my words wisely and I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended by it."
