A Malaysian woman claims that she saw the missing Malaysian Airlines flight the day it went missing from her passenger window on a flight from Mecca.
Raja Dalelah Raja Latife, 53, told Malaysia’s Daily Star that she was on flight SV2058 back to Kuala Lumpur from Mecca. She claims that as the plane passed Chennai in India, she saw an airplane out of her window.
“I had seen several shipping liners and islands from my window earlier. Then, I saw the silvery object,” Latife said. “I took a closer look and was shocked to see what looked like the tail and wing of an aircraft on the water.”
She says that the next moment, the object looked like it was in the water. She woke up her friends to tell them, but they laughed at her. Still, she said she filed a police report on March 8, the day of her flight and the last time the missing flight had been heard from. She also filed another report on March 14 with the Department of Civil Aviation.
Even though Latife is sticking with her claim, an unnamed pilot told the Star that her story was farfetched. “Along any flight path, especially a long-haul one such as between Jeddah and Kuala Lumpur, the altitude of the plane will be maintained at around 35,000ft once it is in the air,” the pilot said. “This is roughly seven miles above sea level. How can anyone see anything like a boat or ship on the ground from so high up?”
“I know what I saw,” Latife said. “I am convinced that I saw the aircraft. And I will not lie. I had just returned from my pilgrimage.”
Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and its 239 passengers and crew have still not been heard from. Australian authorities are searching a remote location in the Indian Ocean for possible debris, but haven’t been able to locate what was seen in satellite imagery.
