Katheryn Deprill, a woman who has been named the "Burger King baby", has finally been reunited with her birth mother.
Deprill was abandoned by her mother in the restroom of a Burger King in Pennsylvania 27 years ago when she was just hours old.
According to USA Today, the woman took to Facebook to begin her search for her biological mother. On March 2, she posted a photograph of her holding a sign with her story and said, "Please help me find her by sharing my post. Maybe she will see this. Thank you." The Facebook post received nearly 33,000 shares.
Deprill and her mother were reunited at an attorney's office. She said that after she learned what had happened and was told the details of her conception and abandonment, she understood the reasoning for what her mom did.
"She is better than anything I could've ever imagined. She is so sweet and amazing. I'm so happy," said Deprill.
Deprill and her mother met for four hours and exchanged contact information with the plans to keep in touch with one another.
"I got the hug that I had wanted for the last 27 years, and that broke the ice," Deprill said. "I asked if I could have it, and she said, 'absolutely,' and just held her arms open, and the rest is history. We are definitely going to have a relationship."
Yahoo! News reported that Deprill's mother was raped while traveling abroad when she was just 16-years-old. When she became pregnant, she hid it from her parents and after she gave birth in her bedroom, she felt that she could not take her newborn to the hospital because of the questions she would have to answer.
"It was one of the most emotional, joyful, dramatic, exciting things I've ever seen," Waldron of the attorney office said. He added that there was no doubt in his mind that the woman was Deprill's mother.
Deprill said that her mother expressed regret during their hours of meeting. She noted that she completely forgave her mother for what happened "110 percent".
