A New York City newborn made a surprise entry into the world that is sure to be remembered.
Polly McCourt when into labor Monday afternoon. She tried to catch a taxi to the hospital near her home, but her baby had other plans and was ready to come out immediately.
McCourt had no other choice but to give birth to her baby girl on the busy New York City crosswalk on Mahattan's Upper East Side.
"She was like, 'Oh, my God, the baby's coming. And then I could see the baby's head coming out," said a witness.
Fox News noted that many people who were passing by gave their scarves, sweaters, and even a coat to help wrap the mother and her newborn baby.
According to the NY Post, the couple named gave their baby the name Ila Isabelle, which is named after a woman who helped deliver the child and left her coat to keep the mother warm. The family hopes to track down the kind-hearted lady and thank her.
“I’m overjoyed for the birth of my little girl. It’s been quite emotional,” said the baby’s father Cian McCorty.
The mother and newborn, Ila, are doing well and are at Lenox Hill Hospital.
