After years of rumors and fans wondering, a Goonies sequel may finally be in the works.

Director Richard Donner explained that he is currently working on bringing the entire original cast back together for a sequel to the original Goonies that was released back in 1986. The film instantly became a cult classic, Variety reported.

The director was asked recently if he would be doing a comic book film but instead he answered the question by saying “If you call ‘Goonies’ a comic book. We’re doing a sequel.”

No information was provided about the script or what the film would feature. The original cast featured Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen and Martha Plimpton in the main roles. No word yet on if any of the actors would be returning for the sequel.

USA Today added that Donner last director the 2006 cop drama 16 Blocks which stared Bruce Willis.

At a recent press event Sean Astin explained that he was without a doubt certain they would be moving forward with a sequel.
