The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints faith’s general conference had 75 unintended visitors this weekend. 75 atheists, most of whom are former Mormons, marched in Salt Lake City around Temple Square during the conference.
At the march called the “the Mormon exodus and mass resignation event” many of the atheists mailed their resignations from the church.
“It’s our right to resign from the LDS Church and support others who would like to,” said Dan Ellis, president of the Atheists of Utah, reported The Salt Lake Tribune .
Following the march, David Silverman, the president of American Atheists spoke to the crowd. American Atheists will hold a national convention in Salt Lake City from April 17-20, Easter weekend.
Meanwhile inside the church, Mormon’s attending the faith’s general conference were encouraged to strong with their religion, reported the Associated Press. The conference expected to bring in more than 100,000 Mormon’s to hear the religions top leaders throughout five different sessions during the weekend.
