After a week of speculation, AC/DC has finally issued a statement on the health of guitarist Malcolm Young. The iconic rock band said that Young, a founding member, is taking a break because of an undisclosed illness.

“After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support,” the “Back in Black” group wrote on their website.

They asked that their fans respect their privacy, adding that they will still be making music.

The statement comes a day after frontman Brian Johnson told The Telegraph that they do not plan on completely retiring from the business. He said they plan on regrouping in May in Vancouver to record and a 40th anniversary world tour was expected.

“I'm not ruling anything out,” Johnson told the Telegraph about their future. “One of the boys has a debilitating illness, but I don't want to say too much about it. He is very proud and private, a wonderful chap. We've been pals for 35 years and I look up to him very much.”
