Last weekend, a Texas family caught what they believed to be the mythical Chupacabra, but the animal has now been euthanized.

Jackie Stock and her husband caught a strange looking animal on Sunday night. They appeared in the local news and a video went viral. The animal was hairless and making a strange growl, which they believed proved it was more than a raccoon.

In an interview with TMZ today, Stock said that after the video went viral PETA reps began calling her, complaining that they were keeping it in a cage and that it wasn’t being treated right.

She later figured out that it wasn’t really the mythical Chupacabra, since it wasn’t eating the blood of goats. Some suggested that it really was a racoon and only making the odd noise because it was in pain, suffering from mange. That disease caused the animal to lose its hair.

Stock told TMZ that she decided to take it to a shelter, where they put it down and died peacefully. “I had gotten attached,” she said. I was calling him Chupie. He will be missed.”
