Amazon has joined the “Pay to Quit” program and is offering warehouse employees up to $5,000 to quit their jobs.
According to CNN, the program is meant to ensure that the company’s employees actually want to work there. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced the program on Thursday.
“The goal is to encourage folks to take a moment and think about what they really want,” Bezos said in a letter. “In the long-run, an employee staying somewhere they don’t want to be isn’t healthy for the employee or the company.”
The program was sent to employees with the headline “Please Don’t Take This Offer.” Employees are offered they cash-pay-out based on how long they have worked for the company, reports Yahoo. Employees in their first year are offered $2,000 to quit, every year after that another $1,000 is added to the check, maxing out at $5,000.
This policy is also meant to help employers better determine who they should hire and look for people who want to work for the company.
