Cat lovers, get ready! For a limited time, people can stop at the Purina ONE Cat Café in New York City to grab a coffee and hang out with some feline friends.
According to The LA Times, Purina ONE and the North Shore Animal League have teamed up to bring this cat pop-up café to New York. It opened on Thursday morning and will be open until Sunday.
People are able to come in to the café and order a drink at the coffee bar, such as the signature "cat'achino”, which features cat latte art. Then, they can go into an adjacent room and hang out with any of the 16 cats that are available to play with. And guess what? Everything is free.
Such cafes can be found in Europe and Asia, but this is the first to be brought to North America.
“It's a surprise no one has done this here before,” off-site coordinator of the North Shore Animal League, Matthew Carroll said.
All of the cats are also available for adoption through North Shore. Before being placed at the café, they were all tested to make sure they are calm and people-friendly, reports Eater.
“PETA thinks the cats may enjoy the experience and even acquire a forever home if their safety and well-being are priorities," said PETA’s president, Ingrid Newkirk. "They should also never be picked up and put down repeatedly as if they were merchandise.”
The Purina One Cat Café is located at 168 Bowery and is open every day until Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
