Five American museums have agreed to work together with the Outdoor Advertising Association of America to show off masterpieces by American artists on billboards nationwide. The “Art Everywhere” initiative will launch in August and Americans can pick their favorite art in an online poll.

The five museums participating in the project are the Dallas Museum of Art, New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, notes The Associated Press.

There are 100 nominees, from Three Flags by Jasper Johns to Grant Wood’s American Gothic. You can even vote for one of Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Can pieces.

Each voter is asked to pick 10 pieces and the 50 most vote-getters will be included in the project.

Maxwell Anderson, the director of the Dallas Museum of Art, told The Dallas News that the final works picked will “tell the story of America, express our creativity and reflect who we are.” He added, “We hope Art Everywhere will inspire all of us to learn more about America’s artistic treasures, past and present, and discover many more of the great works in our nation’s museums.”

Some of the other artists whose work could be included in the project are Mark Rothko, Mary Cassatt, Georgia O'Keeffe, Edward Hopper, Gilbert Stewart, Frank Lloyd Wright, Roy Lichtenstein and Jackson Pollock. Voting closes on May 7.
