Arcade Fire has been known to include some strange bobble head guests during their performances—this time, their concert at Coachella kept up with the wacky tradition.
At the end of their set on Sunday night, the band brought out Beck, appropriately dressed for Easter in a Pope Francis bobble head, to perform a cover of the 1982 Prince hit, “Controversy,” reports Billboard.
Also while at Coachella, Arcade Fire managed to squeeze in another silly performance. Butler told the crowd they would bring out another special guest and audience members claimed to hear him say “Paft Dunk,” referring to the electronic super duo, Daft Punk. Along with two performers wearing Daft Punk style robot attire, a slow motion cover of “Get Lucky” was executed for the crowd at Coachella 2014, according to Rolling Stone.
It still remains a mystery if the two robots were actually Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk or just impersonators. Who could really tell?—we never see the real performers anyway and Arcade Fire has taken a liking to joking around on stage.
It makes most sense that the robots were in fact dressed up for the gig and not the musical act, especially since Butler previously took a jab at the EDM-focused lineup and dedicated one song to “"all the bands at this festival playing real instruments."
“Paft Dunk,” Beck and Julian Casablancas and Debbie Harry are just four of the many performers to join Arcade Fire on stage and there is no indication of them being the last.
