Archie Andrews who has been the star of his own comic series since 1941 and now he will be going out like a hero in the penultimate issue of the Life with Archie series.

The series, which will have spanned 37 issues, looks at what Archie and the rest of the gang's life after college was and now it's coming to an end, reports USA Today. In issue 36 Archie will be killed off and then the final issue will show his close friends, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and Reggie, remembering Archie.

Up to now the story in the Life with Archie series was split between two stories, if he ended up with Betty or Veronica and the possible journey his life could take from there, according to CNN.

The details are being kept under wraps, but it has been revealed that Archie will die saving a friend. Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater said the decision to kill was Archie was because "it's the natural conclusion to the 'Life with Archie' series."

Goldwater, who is the son of creator John Goldwater, added, "Archie dies as he lived - heroically. He dies saving the life of a friend, and does it in his usual selfless way. Archie has always been a representation of us -- the best of us. Our strengths and our faults."

Fret not though that Archie is going away for good. He will remain a teen with everyone else in other comics that follow his exploits, including the Afterlife With Archie zombie series.
