Authorities said an Arizona State University student fell to her death from a 10th-floor balcony in a tragic case of underage drinking.
According to The Arizona Republic, Tempe police have said that 18-year-old Naomi McClendon was intoxicated when she fell over the railing at an ASU apartment complex early Sunday morning.
Video surveillance footage shows McClendon, who appeared to be intoxicated, entering the lobby of a building across the street from the campus.
She then went up to a tenth floor apartment alone, ended up on the balcony and fell to her death after trying unsuccessfully to grab onto the railing.
The Kansas City Star reported that police found her in the parking lot below. She was later pronounced dead at an area hospital later.
ASU released a statement Monday on McClendon’s death.
"We are deeply saddened by the death of ASU student Naomi McClendon,” university spokeswoman Julie Newberg said in the statement. “ASU extends condolences to her family and friends and is offering counseling services to those who knew her.”
