An Arkansas senator was taken to the hospital after feeling sick on Monday night and it was determined by the doctors that he needed heart surgery. He is currently recovering and seems to be doing well.
According to CNN, Sen. John Boozman had an aortic aneurysm and required heart surgery. Hid office said the junior senator is "receiving excellent care."
His spokeswoman Sara Lasure wrote in an email to The New York Times, "The senator is responding well to the surgery."
The unexpected surgery required him to be absent from a Tuesday morning breakfast with several Arkansas mayors, where he was set to talk about several issues, such as the Affordable Care Act and some new roadway. Boozman was also supposed to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Northwest Arkansas Business Journal notes that he was taken to Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas after feeling ill.
Boozman is currently in his first term as senator, but spent five terms in the House.
