A baby born in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, China is reportedly in stable condition after having successful surgery to remove extra limbs.
According to China’s Global Times, the infant boy, born with four arms and four legs, was joined with a headless parasitic twin at the torso.
“They were supposed to be twins, but one had underdeveloped and became deformed," said Yu Jiakang, the chief surgeon at Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center.
Before his surgery on April 11, the baby boy was diagnosed with pneumonia and congenital heart disease.
His father, identified only as "Chen," told ImagineChina that he blames himself for his son’s deformity and should have given his wife better care.
“I only cared about my work,” he said. “I just thought of making money instead of taking [my wife] to hospital for a medical checkup.”
The evening news also noted that Chen said no abnormalities were found by doctors during the checkups his wife had throughout her pregnancy.
