Johnny Knoxville is best known for his unscripted hijinks under the Jackass banner, but he’s going to take on a scripted project with Sick Day, a film set up at Universal. Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer is producing with Kim Roth and Bates Entertainment’ Edward Bates.
Sick Day was originally written by Jeremy Garelick, but Jordan Carnahan has reworked the screenplay, reports Deadline. Garelick is still signed to direct, but could not polish the script himself because he was working on The Wedding Ringer.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the project is said to be similar to Ferris Bueller's Day Off, with a trio of friends plotting crazy hijinks as adults without getting caught. Knoxville is the first member of the group to be cast.
Knoxville remains best known for his wildly popular Jackass franchise, which started as a show and then developed into a cheap series of films that have been hits at the box office. Last year’s Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa made $102 million for Paramount and only cost $15 million to make. It even earned an Oscar nomination for make-up.
Knoxville’s voice can be heard in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, which opens on Aug. 8. He voices Leonardo, one of the turtles.
