Ben & Jerry’s is celebrating their anniversary today by giving customers free scoops of ice cream.

The ice cream makers are offering free scoops all day. It is the 36th anniversary of the company’s first Vermont store.

The first free cones day was an enormous success. Last year, some stores gave away from than 3,500 cones. According to Newsday, Toni Piazza, manager of the Westhampton location, said, “It was non-stop. There was a line down the road. It’s a way for Ben and Jerry’s to say ‘thank you’ for all the customers we have had in the past. It’s exciting and I really enjoy doing it for the community."

Ben & Jerry’s is known for their original brands of ice cream including “Chunky Monkey,” “Half Baked,” and “Cherry Garcia.” Although free scoops today are only available in their stores, their ice cream flavors can be found in almost any large grocery store. Ben & Jerry’s first opened in 1979, and now they have ice cream in the US and abroad. Ben & Jerry’s ice cream can be found in over 26 countries, according to the LA Times.
