An explosion at a bus station in Abuja, Nigeria killed 71 people and injured 124 others on Monday.
CNN noted that Nigerian officials said that at 71 people were killed when a parked vehicle exploded at the Nyanya Motor Park bus station. Another 124 people were injured by the explosion on the outskirts of the capital city police spokesman Frank Mba said.
The Associated Press reported that Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan blamed the deadly attack on Boko Haram, an Islamic extremist group that operates in the northeast region of the country.
"The issue of Boko Haram is quite an ugly history within this period of our own development," said Jonathan. "Government is doing everything to make sure that we move our country forward ... But the issue of Boko Haram is temporary. Surely, we will get over it."
The group did not immediately claim responsibility for the most recent attack.
Abuja is one of the most populous cities in Nigeria. The station was packed with early morning commuters at the time of the explosion.
