Captain America: The Winter Soldier shattered the box office in weekend sales, making $96.2 million in revenue. This set a new record for box-office sales in April.
According to USA Today, the first Captain America film reached $86 million in its opening box-office weekend. Fast Five previously held the record in April with $86 million.
The film stars Chris Evans as a World War II reject. He is given superpowers after a serum experiment. Also starring in the movie is Scarlett Johansson. In addition to the box office sales, the critics have acted favorably toward the film. Rotten Tomatoes had 89 percent of its reviewers give the movie a positive review while 95 percent of fans recommended it.
According to Reuters, Noah finished second in this weekend's box office sales with $17 million. Noah stars Russell Crowe as the Biblical figure.
Divergent finished third with $13 million. God's Not Dead and The Grand Budapest Hotel round out the top five with $7.7 million and $6.3 million respectively.
