Carlene Carter released her new album, Carter Girl on Rounder.
Carter is the daughter of June Carter. She found some fame with the song, “It Takes One to Know Me” which was released on the albums Johnny Cash: The Legend and Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash: Duets. She played Victoria Hester in the movie, Walk the Line, and was linked to the late bass player Howie Epstein, best known for his work with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Carter looks to her family for material. She has recorded Carter Family music, according to the Associated Press. Carter told Country Weekly, “From the day I first touched a guitar or piano, my mom said, ‘You have to carry on the legacy of the Carter Family music. It’s supposed to be passed on and passed around.’”
Carter Girl was produced by Don Was. Carter sings a duet with Vince Gill on “Lonesome Valley” and another duet with Kris Kristofferson on “Black Jack David.” The album focuses solely on songs like “Gold Watch and Chain,” “Little Black Train,” and “Poor Old Heartsick Me.”
