Chris Pine is looking to reignite his career outside Star Trek and a new project with Disney could do the trick. He’s reportedly in talks to star in The Finest Hours, a period coast guard drama that could team him up with the director of Million Dollar Arm.

Pine is very close to signing on. TheWrap reports that he has been in talks with the studio for some time, possibly even months. The plot centers on two oil tankers that get stuck in a New England storm and based on the non-fiction book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy (The Fighter) wrote the screenplay.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Craig Gillespie is also in talks to direct. He just finished Million Dollar Arm with Jon Hamm for Disney and his credits include Lars and the Real Girl and the Fright Night remake.

Robert Schwentke (Red) was going to direct, but he’s been picked to helm the Divergent sequel Insurgent.

Pine is expected to make Finest Hours before doing a third Star Trek movie. He just made Disney’s Into The Woods and Z For Zachariah. The actor is hoping to rebound from the disappointment of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, which didn’t spark as much interest in the Jack Ryan franchise as Paramount hoped.
