Despite dealing with the aftermath of his split from Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin and his band Coldplay have released a new music video for their song “Magic.”
“Magic” is the first single from the follow-up to Coldplay’s 2011 Mylo Xyloto, which is called Ghost Stories. The Paul Epworth-produced album will officially come out on May 19.
MTV News reports the music video for “Magic” debuted on Monday, April 7 and features actress Ziyi Zhang – of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon fame - playing Martin’s wife. The video is directed by Jonas Akerlund and it plays out as a sort of silent film, with Martin as two characters.
Fuse TV notes Martin plays both the hero and the villain, who saves Zhang from her abusive relationship. He plays both the abusive husband and the person who saves her from him.
Martin recently joined NBC’s The Voice as a key adviser to all of the coaches – Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Shakira and Usher.
