A Connecticut teen was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend after she refused to go to the junior prom with him.
According to The New York Daily News, Maren Sanchez, 16, was stabbed to death just after 7 am by her ex-boyfriend for refusing to go to Friday night’s junior prom with him.
Witnesses say the unidentified boy pushed Sanchez down a flight of stairs before attempting to choke her. He then produced a knife, which he brought from home, and stabbed Sanchez in the neck.
"She was screaming. There were students in the hallway when it happened. The kids who saw it are all a wreck,” one of Sanchez’s friends told the New York Daily News.
According to CBS News, Sanchez was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital, where she later passed away.
Friends were surprised by the violent turn of events, saying Sanchez and her killer were both well-liked, polite students.
"He was smart, he did well in classes. Something had to snap,” a friend said of the boy.
"Our investigators are conducting a large number of interviews and looking at other measures as well to determine not just why this happened, but how it happened," Police Chief Keith Mello said.
Sanchez’s killer is in police custody, however, charges have not been filed against him as of yet.
