Country music singer Kevin Sharp died Saturday night in Fair Oaks, Calif., due to problems with previous stomach surgeries and his digestive system. Sharp was 43.

After surviving a bout with cancer, Sharp died in his mother’s home April 19 at 10:49 p.m., reported the Associated Press.

Sharp is well-known for his country hit, “Nobody Knows,” according to CNN. After releasing the song on his debut album, Measure of a Man, in 1996, Sharp later released two more albums called Love Is in 1998 and Make A Wish in 2005.

Sharp was originally diagnosed with a rare form of bone marrow cancer, Ewing’s sarcoma, when he was 17 years old. He went into remission after two years of chemotherapy and radiation.

Following his diagnosis with cancer, Sharp met music producer David Foster through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. From this introduction, he was able to start his career as a country singer.

Sharp wrote a book about fighting cancer called Tragedy’s Gift in 2004, and he became a spokesman and motivational speaker for the foundation.

Before his death, Sharp struggled with the aggressive cancer treatment that resulted in stomach surgeries.

He is survived by his mother, two sisters, and five brothers.
