The daughter of a Detroit beating victim stated that her father is conscious and breathing on his own.

USA Today reports that Steve Utash, 54, is still in a confused state of mind. It is uncertain how long he will remain in the hospital. His daughter, Mandi Utash, wrote that her father “keeps flashing back to the assault screaming for “HELP” and “PLEASE GET THEM OFF ME.”

Mandi Utash states, however, it would appear her father doesn’t remember the incident as real. He is able to move his toes and can answer yes or no questions.

Steve Utash was hospitalized after over a dozen people brutally attacked him on the road. Five suspects have already been arrested in the case.

According to CNN, police are still on the lookout for the remaining suspects. Those already arrested range from 16 to 30 years old. Charges have ranged from assault with intent to murder to ethnic intimidation.

The group attacked Utash after he accidently hit a 10-year-old with his vehicle who ran into the street. Utash had gotten out of the car to immediately help the child when he was attacked.
