Designing duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana of Dolce & Gabbana have been found guilty on tax evasion charges. An Italian court upheld the verdict after they appealed the case and sentenced them to 18 months in jail.
Dolce, Gabbana and their accountant Luciano Patelli were found guilty of tax evasion in June 2013, but in November, they appealed it.
According to Styleite, president of the court, Laura Cairati, upheld the prior conviction on Wednesday but cut their jail sentence from a year and eight months to a year and a half. Dolce’s brother Alfonso, general director Cristiana Ruella, and finance director Giuseppe Minoni were also found guilty and sentenced to a year and four months in jail.
The designers were found guilty of failing to file the proper taxes on their company, Gado, based out of Luxembourg. They failed to file $55 million worth of taxes between 2004 and 2005.
Their lawyer, Massimo Dinoia, said they plan to appeal again and stated they were “shocked” at the verdict.
