Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard is in talks and nearing a deal to helm the Amazing Spider-Man spinoff flick Sinister Six.

Sony Pictures and Marvel are aiming to have this be another film franchise similar to The Avengers, except for bad guys, reports Deadline. Goddard wrote the screenplay for the film.

The Six lineup, will likely consist of the original members, such as Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman, Electro and The Vulture.

In March producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad, on board for Six, talked with SFX about films for the Sinister Six as well as the popular Spider-Man villain, Venom. Like the Six, Venom already has a confirmed fill, with Alex Kurtzman signed on to direct.

They said at the time that they were aiming to have their villains be in some way good since "nobody is all good, nobody's all bad." He said the primary thing is that people "love those bad characters because they're good characters, and love to watch them."

No release date yet, but Deadline notes that it would likely come out after The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which is currently slated for a June 10, 2016 theatrical release.

The site also adds that the reason for the announcement and movement on several sequels also is partially because that Sony has to continue to make more or the rights could go to Disney, since they own Marvel.
