Irish teenager Triona Priestly got her last wish after singer songwriter Ed Sheeran sang to her moments before her death from cystic fibrosis on Tuesday.
According to Independent.ie, family and friends took to Twitter Sunday trying to trend a #SongForTri campaign to contact Sheeran. Independent.ie became involved after hearing that the family was having trouble getting their message heard. While the family has called for privacy at this time, her brother Colm sent his regards to the newspaper thanking Sheeran and everyone involved.
He commented, "What they gave us and her was a beautiful last moment together. Triona slipped into a sleep as Ed was singing to her and passed away shortly afterwards.”
Daily Mail reports that Sheeran sang her favorite song “Little Bird,” and posted his condolences to Twitter after hearing about her passing. Priestly also reached out to long time CF fighter Orla Tinsley about their mutual condition. Tinsley wrote, “She wrote to tell me that seeing an older woman with CF made her confident.”
Priestly’s classmates at Castleneck Community College wore purple Thursday to pay respects to their fallen friend.
Rest in peace Triona, so heartbreaking x
