An elderly driver ran into a line of people waiting outside of a Buena Park, Calif. ice cream shop on Friday night, killing one person and injuring six others.

The driver, who has been detained for questioning, was leaving a parking spot near Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour and drove forward into the line of people, instead of reversing, reports KABC. The Suzuki XL7 drove through a small fence before hitting people.

A customer, Daniel Long spoke with KCAL-TV and said that his son pointed out the car heading towards the shop rather than away. "It looked like the guy kept his foot on the gas pedal instead of the brake."

A 73-year-old-woman, identified as Marisa Malin, was knocked to the ground and pinned underneath the SUV. She died at the UCI Medical Center from her injuries. Five of the six injured had to be taken to the hospital for their injuries, while the sixth was treated on-site.

Police have said the elderly driver appeared to be disoriented after the accident. Long said, "He walked around like he was in a daze, like he didn't even know what happened."
